The 2050 Index is owned and produced by The Wake Up Foundation, a charity dedicated to public education about the dangerous trends in western, advanced open societies and how those trends can be countered.
The 2050 Index was conceived and prepared by Bill Emmott, chairman of the Wake Up Foundation and a former editor-in-chief of The Economist. The data and statistical work was done by James Fransham, as a freelance consultant to WUF: his day job is as a data correspondent at The Economist in New York. Editorial content, in particular the Country pages, was written by Tom Startup, an economist and private tutor in London. The website was designed and built by The Space Room. Animations were produced by Dog & Rabbit.
The Wake Up Foundation wishes to thank the Marjorie Deane Financial Journalism Foundation for the financial support that made the 2050 Index possible. The late Marjorie Deane was a statistician and then writer at The Economist and the newsletter Financial Report for more than 40 years until her retirement in 1989. Always thinking of the long term, Marjorie set up her foundation in 1998, a decade before her death in 2008 at the age of 94.
The 2050 Index will be updated annually, but articles and debate about the themes it raises will be published continuously.
The Wake up Foundation is a registered charity no. 1152894
